Hospital Bag

Pajamas- You’ll want a gown and other pajamas for the remainder of your time in the hospital. My favorite were crop pants and a top with a shelf bra. I could wear it out of my room and I didn’t feel like I was in my pajamas. The shelf bra was great for breastfeeding. Get a few, you don’t know how long you’ll be in the hospital.

Robe or sweat shirt- Your hormones will still be in swing, so you will be hot and then cold.

Flip flops or slip on shoes.-You will want to get up and move about the hospital.
Fancy soap and lotion. Who wants to use the hospital soap? You’ll want to feel a little refreshed and womanly.

Air Freshener- It gets really stuffy in those rooms. Some hospitals may not allow candles.

Baby powder- Not only is it great to prevent diaper rash, you can put it in your hair to keep it from looking oily if you haven’t been able to take a shower.
Your favorite pillow and blanket. Might as well be comfortable while your there.

Socks with grippers- your feet might get cold.

Magazines or books.

Thick pads- You will bleed heavily for while after the baby is born and the hospital may only give you a few to get home on. You may not want to bring these to the hospital, but you’ll definitely want them when you get home. You won’t be able to put anything in your vagina for at least 1 month, so tampons are out.

Underwear- Get a package of cheap big under ware. Thongs are great, but your pantie line will be the last thing on your mind. You will need under ware you don’t mind ruining and some that won’t bother your scar if you have a c-section. Get a pretty pattern if you want to feel sexy.

Baby Book-Your baby book and a bag or box to put keepsakes in. You’ll want to have your book for guests to sign. Plus, if you feel up to it, you can always work on putting it together. You’ll want to have a box or bag to keep up with hospital scrubs and bracelets. Don’t forget a pen!

Camera, Video Camera, & Batteries- If you have mixed feelings about a camera in the room while your giving birth, you may want to reconsider. You can control who watches it and you may really regret not having a tape later when the moment is gone. Have someone outside the delivery room videotaping. You’ll want to see what people were talking about and doing during the birth of your child.

Car seat- Remember you can’t take your baby home with out it.

Gift Baskets- They make great gift baskets for expectant mothers. You may want to splurge on yourself and get one or register for one.

Baby Clothes- You will want to bring a few outfits in different sizes- Newborn & 0-3 months and if you got preemie clothes at your shower.

Blankets- You’ll want receiving blankets to wrap your baby in.

Socks- You won’t want baby’s feet to get cold.

Wet Wipes- Bring diapers if you want, but the hospital will provide them and you already paid for them. Sometimes the hospital wet wipes are dry cloths you have to wet and they are a pain. Bring your own.

“Bringing home Baby” outfit- You may want a special outfit to bring your baby home in. Remember you may want a couple of sizes.
